Marquetry Workshop: Creating Images with Wood

 18 & 25 January 2015

Description: Create designs in wood! Marquetry is the art of creating imagery by cutting and fitting thin pieces of wood together. These designs are then veneered to a solid core to be used in making furniture or decorative panels.

This class is appropriate for anyone interested in creating imagery in wood and is an opportunity to explore an ancient art form that has many practical uses as a design element in artwork created today. This is a hands-on class. You will make several marquetry designs during the class and leave with the tools that you need to continue producing marquetry on your own.

Matthew is a patient and engaging teacher who finds joy in passing on skills and knowledge.

Workshop level: Prior woodworking experience is helpful, but not necessary. Participants who have an interest in drawing and sketching will especially enjoy the class because of the graphic nature of marquetry. For furnituremakers, marquetry offers a chance to further enhance their work.
